Star Trek: Vanguard Book 6 cover (sorta).

In my monthly writing wrap-up blog post, I make mention of the current "working title" for our in-progress Star Trek: Vanguard novel. For a while now, I've been jokingly referring to it as being titled:

The Taurus Key: A Crystalline Fairy Tale, Founded Upon The Mysteries of the Shedai and the Oppression of Their Servants. It Was Written for Kollotuul, But Others Should Read It

For those asking, "WHAT THE FRAKKETY FRAK?!?" I came up with this title in response to a book referenced by steve_mollmann over on the TrekBBS a long while back. I've since forgotten the original book's rather wordy title, but it was in the wake of that posting that I came up with mine, and it's been the working title for Vanguard Book 6 since then.

In my writing wrap-up, I mention that Book 6 does have a real working title, which (so far) hasn't been shot down by anyone in the editorial food chain. I also mention that if the opportunity arose, I would ask artist Doug Drexler to grace whatever bit of Awesomeness he creates for our cover with my clunky fun title.

Enter liquidcross, who this morning apparently had some free time in the wake of that blog entry:

So, thanks to liquidcross for that bit of zaniness, which helped to get the day off on the right foot.

The Master Key: An Electrical Fairy Tale Founded Upon the Mysteries of Electricity and the Optimism of Its Devotees. It was Written for Boys, but Others May Read It by L. Frank Baum.

Baum took the 19th-century penchant for long titles to ridiculous extremes in the early 20th: the third Oz book's full title is Ozma of Oz: A Record of Her Adventures with Dorothy Gale of Kansas, the Yellow Hen, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, Tiktok, the Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger; Besides Other Good People too Numerous to Mention Faithfully Recorded Herein.

There's my problem: I kept searching for "others should read it" on the TrekLit board, thinking that part was borrowed from the original title :D

That is a new kind of hotness. Thanks for the good laugh.
