Jericho May Return from the Ashes.

"Jericho, the CBS television series that was canceled because of low ratings, then revived following protests from fans, then canceled again because of low ratings, may be revived a second time, the New York Times reported today (Monday). The newspaper said that CBS may follow NBC's recent example with Friday Night Lights in which it sold the DirecTV satellite service the right to air the series before it goes on network TV. The Times said that CBS is considering a similar option in negotiations with cable provider Comcast. Meanwhile, although DirecTV executives have expressed confidence that the Friday Night Lights deal could drive new subscribers to their service, some analysts are expressing skepticism about its ability to do so and forecasting that the DirecTV episodes will wind up being pirated on the Internet."

Guess we'll have to see what we'll see.

I thought they'd at least try for something meatier...a fake press release or whatever. Nice PhotoShop job on the pic, though.

The second season of Jericho starts tonight, thanks to a kick-ass "rescue mission" by fans and a rare change of mind and heart by studio execs, whereby the show's cancellation was reversed and a second season -- albeit a shortened one -- was approved.

The show got a lot of flak early on during the first season for being too "soapy," but it hit its stride at about the half-way mark. So far as I understand, tonight's episode picks up after the season-ending cliffhanger from last spring. It'll be interesting to see where things go from there.

So, as the saying goes...."NUTS!"

I've re-screened the first 8 eps of Jericho thanks to the new DVD set. Except for the pilot, it's the first time I've seen them since they aired last year. While I remember liking the characters more than some of the actual plotlines of those first episodes, I still think the shows are pretty good. It's fun to go back and watch the "layering" of certain characters - with Hawkins being the obvious example - now that I know how things will progress throughout the season.

One other thing I didn't know until I started poking around the 'net...the Morse code that accompanies the title card at the start of each episode is a different message. Those sly bastards. :)
